Things to consider before scheduling a 6 yard skip hire

We cannot always fulfil next day delivery requests made online. If you require next working day delivery please call our office to avoid disappointment. We will usually do our best to fulfil requests received before 3pm Mon-Fri.

Skip lorries are large, if you are having a skip placed on your property you need to consider a few things:

  • Can the land/drive the skip will rest on take the weight of the skip and contents without doing any damage?
  • If the skip lorry needs to drive on to your property, is there enough width for the lorry to manoeuvre? Can the land/drive support the lorry weight? Are there any height restrictions??
  • If the hirer requests the vehicle delivering or collecting the skip to leave the public highway they shall fully indemnify the company in respect of any loss, costs, claims, damages or expenses whether as a result of personal injury or as a result of damage to the vehicle itself or to any property of the hirer or third parties (including driveways/verges etc.)?
  • If you think delivery and placement of the skip on your property will not be straight forward i.e. height restrictions or restricted access as to where the skip will be placed, please call the office before ordering or include as much information as possible on the booking page in the delivery section.?

We have a smaller lorry available for jobs with difficult access. Please call us to book your skip if you think you will require a small lorry to deliver/collect your skip.

Areas we cover

To ensure we offer the best service and to save any nasty surprises, you'll be asked to enter your postcode when you add a skip to your basket. This is to confirm you're within our delivery area. You can also find out more over on our area coverage page.

Using the wait & load service

The Wait & Load service is available on all skip sizes. The Wait & Load service can be used when you do not want to have a skip placed on your property and want to save the cost of obtaining a Road Permit.

When the lorry arrives, you have a maximum of thirty minutes to fill the skip with your waste. The lorry will leave whether or not you have completed loading after thirty minutes, or you can agree to be charged additional time. Please see our additional charges page here for up to date costings.

Please note that we cannot offer a Wait & Load service in a restricted area e.g. yellow lines.

We've put together a quick table highlighting the sizes of all our skips, including width, height and lengths. This should allow you to quickly see and decide on the size of skip you require to suit your needs and requirements.

Type Height Length Width Notes
4 Yard Skips 1.1m 2.4m 1.5m Midi – Ideal for home or small building jobs. Mixed or Heavy waste.
6 Yard Skips 1.1m 3.3m 1.8m Builders – Standard skip used by builders. Mixed or Heavy waste. This is the largest skip available for heavy only waste.
8 Yard Skips 1.2m 3.4m 1.8m Large – Ideal for large domestic jobs and building sites for their lighter mixed waste. Cannot be used for soil.
10 Yard Skips 1.3m 3.6m 1.8m Large – Suitable for very large building projects or industrial waste. Light waste only. Cannot be used for rubble or soil.
12 Yard Skips 1.6m 3.4m 1.8m Extra Large – Suitable for larger projects. Light waste only. Cannot be used for rubble or soil.

If you're worried one of our skips wont be able to fit on your property then our wait and load service could be right for you. It's ideal when placing a skip on your property isn't feasible or you're unable to obtain a road permit.

Frequently asked questions

We understand that booking a skip can be a daunting task if you’re unfamiliar with how it works. Here’s some frequently asked questions that should go a long way to putting your mind at ease. Should you need to talk to a member of the team to discuss a query we’ve not touched on below about your skip hire then don’t hesitate to give us a ring on 01892 838331 and select option 2.

How long can I keep my skip for?

Scrapco Skip Hire will provide you with the skip for 3 weeks as standard. Each additional week is an extra charge, please call us to arrange this.

How wide does our driveway / entrance need to be for your lorry?

To allow our skip lorry to access your property safely we need a minimum of 9 – 10 feet in width.

What will happen to my waste?

Your waste will be processed at our fully licensed transfer station. We aim to recycle 99% of your waste and like to ensure our use of landfill is minimal.

Can you put black bags in a skip?

Yes, you can but as long as they are not filled with hazardous or food waste.

How much should you fill a skip?

By law you must not overfill your skip, you should only fill the skip to the height of its sides. It’s tempting to pile it high, but any items above the sides of the skips are likely to fall out during transit.

How can I dispose of plasterboard?

Our general waste skips you can put a maximum of 20% of plasterboard but this will need to be bagged and placed last on the skip.

Will i need a permit for my skip?

If the skip is on private property, you do not require a permit, but you must ask the property owners for permission.

If the skip is on the road, you do require a permit. Permits can be purchased through us at the time of ordering the skip online or by calling us when booking in the skip. We do require 3-5 working days prior the placing the skip on the highway.

What things will incur extra charges on my skip hire?

Check out our page on extra charges here for more information on things that you can and can’t put in your skip.

Mattress and car tyre are also an extra charge, please give us a call regarding these prices.

Amazing company. Needed a skip last minute, Chelsea and the team were so helpful and went above and beyond to sort one out. It arrived within the hour! Driver was lovely and made sure it was in the right place. Ended up needing another skip as had underestimated the volume of soil and again great service and was booked in for first collection of the day. Really excellent customer service, great commincation and good value. Highly recommend for all your skip needs.
